Halloween Costume Day:

We held a Halloween Costume Day on Thursday 25th October to raise funds for the Killorglin Outreach of Recovery Haven Cancer Support. Thank you to all the children and parents for the fantastic effort that was put into the day. Thank you too to the members of Killorglin & District Pipe Band who visited the school to add to the occasion. A fantastic amount of €334.61 was raised for Recovery Haven. Thank you all again.

Clothing Collection:

We held a Fundraising Clothing Collection on Tuesday 20th November. We were overwhelmed by the response to same. A huge thank you to all who donated to our collection especially those who went above and beyond to assist us. Your help is greatly appreciated. We recycled a whopping 1975kg of clothing receiving €987.50 for the school. This type of funding is vital for the school as Department Grants themselves are not enough to keep the school going throughout the year.

Time to Read:

The Time to Read programme in 2nd class got underway earlier in the month with the launch and first reading session on Wednesday 7th. The children are thoroughly enjoying the first few weeks and are looking forward to working with their buddies in the weeks and months ahead. Many thanks to the parents who attended on the morning and for providing some home-baking for the launch. Thanks also to our Parents Association for their help with the refreshments and for their continued support. Thank you to Anne (FEXCO) and Eileen (Business in the Community Ireland) for their assistance in the running of this hugely successful programme. A final thank you to the fantastic volunteers from FEXCO who will visit our school for the next 20 weeks to read with the children.

Art:

Congratulations to Aisling Carroll (First Class) who was selected as "Highly Commended" in her category in the annual Astellas Art Competition. Congratulations also to Leah Foley Coffey (Second Class) who came 3rd in her category in the Cara Credit Union Art Competition. Congratulations also to Erin Murphy who entered the Astellas Art Competition through the staff section who was also selected as “Highly Commended” in her category. Well done to you all!

Team Hope Shoebox Appeal:

Carmel collected 52 shoeboxes in total for the Christmas Shoebox Appeal. Carmel wishes to thank everyone who donated.

Kind Regards,

Sinéad Pigott

Principal
