World Book Day Fundraiser:
World Book Day falls on Thursday 7th March, we have decided to organise this year’s World Book Day Dress-Up Day as a fundraiser to support Alannah Foley (Senior Infants), her little brother Adam, and their family. Alannah and Adam's father, Andrew Foley, along with TJ O'Connor and Pádraig McGillicuddy, are taking on the challenge of scaling the highest peak in each of Ireland's four provinces within 24 hours on Sunday, May 5, 2024. The have named this challenge 4 peaks by 3 friends for 2 children in 1 day. Alannah and Adam Foley have both been diagnosed with and are undergoing continuous treatment for Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1). We are inviting the children to come to school in a costume for World Book Day on Thursday 7th March. The important thing to remind the children is that their costume should reflect their choice of reading/their favourite book character. Please do not purchase costumes, keep it simple using props or choose a character that wears everyday clothes. We are suggesting a donation of €1 or €2 - all proceeds will go to the challenge fundraiser.
Sacraments:
First Confession - Thursday 29th February, 7pm
First Holy Communion - Saturday 18th May, 12 noon
Confirmation - Friday 26th April, 5pm
Time to Count:
We are continuing with the Time to Count programme this year. Time to Count will be getting underway in 3rd Class after Easter. We are delighted that Business in the Community Ireland and Fexco are continuing to undertake this programme with us all these years later. The Time to Count programme returns to in-school sessions where volunteers from Fexco will call to the school once a week to play maths games with the children. These sessions have proven very successful in many schools over the years and have shown an improvement in many areas & skills for the children involved. We will be launching the programme on Wednesday 10th April if you would like to call in and meet the volunteers.
St. Brigid’s Day Project
Our fabulous whole school art project was in situ in the window of Jones Eurospar earlier this month for St. Brigid’s Day. This beautiful artwork featured fantastic, colourful, individual squares from every pupil in Glounaguillagh NS. We were absolutely delighted to be able to create & design our wonderful St. Brigid's Day cloak. A huge thank you to the Biddy’s Day committee for allowing us to get creative, to Brian and all at Jones Eurospar for the use of their window, and to all the teachers & students for their collaboration on this lovely whole school project. I’m sure you will all agree it was a very worthwhile project
Addditional Accommodation:
Our roof trusses were delivered on site this morning. We are looking forward to the project progressing over the coming weeks and months.
Kind regards,
Sinéad Pigott
Principal
