February Mid-Term:
A reminder that the school is closed on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th February for the Mid-Term break.
Staff Training:
A reminder that the school will be closed on Wednesday 25th February, as all staff members will be attending an off-site training session.
After-School Service:
While there has been a good response to the proposed after-school service, we have not yet reached the minimum number of sign-ups required to proceed. A reminder to anyone intending to sign up that you must complete the enrolment form (available from the school office) and email the completed form to Brookview Childcare at glounaguillaghafterschool@gmail.com.
Photographs and Social Media:
The school will be making a small change to how photographs are shared. Going forward, photos posted on school social media will generally show children in a non-identifiable way. Group and team photographs will be shared in our monthly school newsletter. Staff may also share classroom photos with parents from time-to-time via Aladdin. Families who have previously opted out of photographs will continue to be respected unless updated consent is provided to the school office.
Book Fair:
We will be hosting the Scholastic Book Fair in March. The books will arrive on Wednesday 18th March and will remain for the following week. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to explore various authors and genres while promoting reading throughout the school. More details will be sent nearer the time. A portion of the proceeds will go towards new books and resources for our school library, ensuring that we continue to nurture our students’ love of reading.
School Swimming:
Swimming lessons for 3rd and 4th Class will commence on Thursday 5th March. The children will attend six sessions, finishing on Thursday 24th April. Lessons will take place each Thursday and will run for 45 minutes at Killarney Sports & Leisure Centre. A payment link and further information have been sent. Thank you to the Parents’ Association for their ongoing support with the swimming lessons.
Cycle Right:
The children in 5th and 6th Class are halfway through their sessions in the Cycle Right Programme, focusing on practical cycle safety and skills training. Our thanks to Pat Clifford and Conor Gleeson for delivering the programme. We also thank Kerry Recreation and Sports Partnership for contributing towards the cost of the sessions, along with the other agencies involved. A final thank you to parents for supporting this very worthwhile initiative, which helps to promote safe, competent and confident cyclists.
Sacraments:
Congratulations to all our pupils who made their First Confession last Thursday evening. Our Confirmation candidates also took the Confirmation pledge over the weekend. Well done to you all.
Chess:
Two teams travelled to Caherciveen earlier in the month to take part in a one-day inter-school chess tournament. The children performed very well, demonstrating great skill and teamwork, and thoroughly enjoyed their day. Well done to Sean Browne, James Benton, Chloe Kennedy, Ben Mullins, James Phelan, James Walsh, Zack Scully, Molly Kennedy, Dillon Mullins, Hayley Walker, Áine Carroll, Julia Seagrave, Hazel Phelan, Iveragh Mansell, Réiltín O’Shea and Eoghan O’Malley. Time to Count:
Time to Count got underway in 3rd Class at the end of January. We are very grateful to Fexco and Business in the Community Ireland for their continued support. Volunteers from Fexco visit the school once a week to play maths games with the children in 3rd Class. A sincere thank you to all involved for your commitment to this programme.
Kind regards,
Sinéad Pigott
Principal
